RANDOM SELECTION

June 2, 2008 by edreysmusic

My interpretation of the long lasting effects from the chains of slavery.

A piece that I created as a part of the UB sponsored Music is Art LIVE series at Center for the Arts in 2007.

Another portrait that isn’t too hard to make out. Haven’t gotten this into his hands just yet, but eventually. Dedicated time became millions of lines.

DOCTOR PRESCRIBES DETOX

Billy Drease says the color is “Dark Yellow Green”…
…and the Dope 45s say..”Chase your dreams…in Greeeen!!”

Green is supposed to be soothing, but at times it can imply greed and envy. Lately, every major company has been been associating “green” with the environment and saving the earth by reducing pollution. I haven’t mentioned money, because not ALL money is green. I have some wierd looking money right now that we brought back from Canada. I actually like it, its very creative and colorful, much like the diversity in Canada.

Anyhow, Dr. Dre, the Chronic…the “classic album.” I don’t really need to say more than that.
Yes he pioneered the West Coast sound and etched NWA into history and placed Snoop on the map, Eminem and so on and so on…but honestly…his resume could just list the Chronic..and I’m sold. And oh yeah..he has LOTS OF GREEN!

Where in the hell is this DETOX album we’ve been hearing about for the last 5 years?

THE ROCK THAT PETE BUILT

Billy Drease says the color is “Pure Cyan Blue”…
…and the Dope 45s say..”Make it do what it do…in Blue!!”

I chose blue for its representation of water, flowing water, flowing-winding cold water carving through the rocks…the PETE ROCKS! Water has a tranquility about it that can really put on at ease, and it has the unique ability to conform to any shape and space it interacts with.

Pete Rock, The Money Earnin’ Mt. Vernon beat maker is certainly in my top 10 producers list. Pete’s music reigned in the 90’s with his signature horn treatments and bass heavy arrangements powered by chopped up samples and/or loops. People seem to forget his contribution to hip hop and music abroad. Lastly, he has nothing to prove as far as I’m concerned, simply for the these three reasons: Mecca and Soul Brother album (CLASSIC), Public Enemy “Shut em’ Down” remix and Nas’ “The World is Yours”…

TIMBALAND

Billy Drease says the color is “Pure Red Orange”…
…and the Dope 45s say..”Be adorned, in orange!!”

A portrait of Timbaland for which I selected an orange back drop because orange represents creativity and is supposed to stimulate oxygen to the brain and it positively vibrates the eyes for a good refreshing feeling. Tim is highly creative and always gives me a refreshed feeling.

In my opinion, Timbo is definitely one of the most prolific producers today. He has been able to stand the test of time and has always been able to successfully reinvent himself and his sound. Each time Timbaland releases a project, it is never the same as the last, and for good reason. There are tons of less talented or lazy producers that seem like they wait to see what Timbo is going to do, and eagerly grease their chicken-hawk talons and try to swoop in for a meal. They LOVE biting off this guy. Much respect to Timothy!
